The Year of Covid

The COVID-19 pandemic, which began during the Lunar New Year of 2020, profoundly impacted how people celebrated this age-old festival. In response to the need to reduce the spread of the disease, the government enforced a lockdown in Wuhan and advised people to "quarantine and celebrate the new year at their current location." As a result, families and friends were unable to gather in person, and many turned to virtual platforms to connect with loved ones. This disruption of tradition and the use of technology to maintain connections became the focus of my artistic exploration. Through my work, I seek to capture how cultural practices evolve and adapt to the changing circumstances of our world.

As a result, essential commodities like hand sanitizer became scarce, and quarantine and nucleic acid testing became commonplace.
